There is a popular line that says that because we have a State of Israel there will never be another Holocaust.
Wow.
Hard to disagree more.
The Holocaust could have happened even if there was a State. The Nazis MIRACULOUSLY didn't come into Israel and continue their atrocities here.
The Holocaust happened b/c [in his infinite and inscrutable wisdom] Hashem allowed it to happen.
It will not happen again אי"ה because He will not allow it to happen again. He doesn't need any help from the State and the State can't prevent it if it is supposed to happen, לא תקפ"ץ [meaning לא תקום פעמיים צרה which I would translate if I knew Hebrew].
There are millions worldwide who would LOVE to see another one. Iran is working hard at wiping us all out in minutes.
Let us place our faith in G-d and not in a State that couldn't stop a bunch of primitive beasts from carrying out a pogrom on Simchas Torah a year and a half ago and instead of fighting back during the Gulf War [I remember it well] told everyone who lives here to go into sealed rooms, put on gas masks and hope for the best. During the Six Day War many thought that another swift Holocaust was about to transpire and it didn't בחסד ה' עלינו. I was here during the Yom Kippur war and people had similar fears.
It is also worth remembering that the US has given Israel 17.9 BILLION dollars [which is worth less that one Mincha or Tosfos but still a lot of money] since the beginning of operation "renovate Gaza" and without their aid we are toast [w/o open miracles of Biblical proportions].
Thank G-d we have a State [with it's many flaws and remembering that it was founded on the belief that a new Torah-less G-d-less Jewish people will arise] that has allowed so many Jews to return home. But we don't believe in the State.
We believe in Hashem.
The point is so obvious to any Ma'amin yet so many people [even a popular, quite knowledgeable rabbi I just heard on-line] make the cognitive distortion.
