JERUSALEM — As crowds waved Israeli flags and laid down their cloaks for him to walk on, a local donkey was thankful to finally be getting the recognition he always felt he deserved.
"It's about time," thought the donkey, as hundreds cheered his triumphal entrance into the city. "It's nice to see the people showing me the appreciation I've earned. I've worked in the shadows for so long, with everyone calling me 'Little Colt.' Not that I minded, of course. Honestly, this is even a bit much for me, everyone singing Hallel and all. But it feels good."
The day had started like any other for the young donkey, being once again tied up to a post. Things took a turn, however, when a group of unusual men came and told the donkey's owner that he was needed immediately for a parade into Jerusalem. "Finally, these guys get it," thought the miniature steed. "A little honor at last for ol' donkey."
As this was going on, an old man stood on a roof in Jerusalem's Old City and sang "ענוים הגיע זמן גאולתכם".
At publishing time, the donkey had felt the crowd had gone a bit overboard singing, "ימים על ימי מלך תוסיף!!!"
