A Bas Melech Goes Overboard

A young lady, mother of two, from a very good family [her father was described by someone who knows him as a "Tzadik"], who graduated Beis Yaakov, is running for city council. What political experience does she have?

None.

But then again Donald Trump's very first job in politics was President of the U.S.A. - so experience is not מעכב [critical]. You sorta learn on the job.

But why should we vote for her? Let us hear what SHE says:

"I think I am perfect for this role because I have 38,000 followers on Instagram and that just shows a certain propensity to be able to rally an audience around me. I know how to make my message resonate. I know how to get people to unify for a cause and for a belief and for having that I’m also able to represent my people before the politicians.”

I must first say that there is a SPECIAL zchus that anyone who works on behalf of the community earns. I am not one to knock anybody. I do nothing for the community and little for the world. I am dust of the earth on my best day. So SHKOYACH to all community activists!! I kiss and hug you all [if you are male] and salute you [if you are a female].

HOWEVER, I don't think that a frum girl/woman should be proud of the fact the 38,000 people follow her on Instagram. Not only doesn't it prove that she will make a good councilwoman - it just proves that she has an interesting Instagram account. It is also a FRIGHTENING breach of the most basic standards of modesty. If one of my daughters had just 38 followers on Instagram I would be distressed. If my children [even the boys] had an Instagram account at all I would be very troubled. To be honest, I wasn't even sure what Instagram is, so I googled it. The result? "Basically Instagram is a photo sharing app."

An אשת איש, daughter of שרה רבקה רחל and לאה showing pictures of herself to thousands of men?? I don't even think it is modest for a woman to show her pictures to women. Why do other people have to look at you?? The same goes for men looking at pictures of men. [I am of course referring even to straight men]. Why do I have to show myself and my family to the whole world??

I really think that many of us have gotten so swept of with the zeitgeist [spirit of the time], we have lost our marbles.

38,000 people consistently looking at pictures of a Beis Yaakov graduate, now married with children. And she boasts about it. Is it just me or have we gone overboard? This is not the "Mishmeres Hatznyius" running around Geula and Meah Shearim on Friday pouring paint on boys and girls who are hanging out. This is really a fundamental appreciation of the holy trait of modesty that educators, Rabbis and Rebbetzins, work so hard to instill in our youth.
