A final thought on the whole brouhaha:
We ALL did things when we were younger that we later regretted. Cut the guy some slack. Even if he did what he was accused of - it was a LOOOONNNNNGGGGGG time ago and there is zero indication that his behavior then would in any way impact his rulings as a Supreme Court justice.
If a halachic shyla would have been asked as to whether publicizing the accusations-allegations is permitted, the answer would probably have been "no" as it didn't seem to have any toeles as it relates to the question of whether he is worthy of the position. It was over 30 years ago. A goy-guy likes beer and likes to party. Then he [possibly] behaves inappropriately. No big news here. Now he is a respectable, married family man [or so it seems] who no longer abuses women while drunk. Every person should be allowed a second chance.
To be clear. I am NOT justifying ever being abusive to any human being in any way shape or form. It is against halacha and against [להבדיל] secular law. It is also evil. We are against evil. My point is that a person is allowed to make mistakes and move on in life and not to be punished forever.
I wish him success and hope he brings honor to the American justice system.
