זמרו לד' חסידיו, והודו לזכר קדשו. החסידות יסודה אהבת החסד, שאיפת ההטבה המוחלטת. כשהיא מתגברת בלב, עד שהיא נטבעת בטבע הנפש, מיד מתגלה אור החיים של חסד ד' הנפלא, והנשמה מתמלאה היא זמרת יה, זמרת עולמים, למעלה מכל חשבון ומדה, למעלה מכל רגש הודאה, שהתכן של הכרת טובה מכריח להכיר מצד מקבל הטובה אל הנותן המשפיע אותה, ברב חסדו. אמנם מתוך ההתעלות הזמרתית, מלאת המית הופעת אור החסד, מתגלה בתור ענף, גם בעת השקיעה של שמש האורה הנשמתית. אז לא עצם החסד, מצדו הבלתי מתיחש אל המקבל את החסדים, הוא מעורר את הכח הזמרתי, אבל זכר הקדש, של אור החסד, שלא נסתר לגמרי, אע"פ שכוסו שמיו בעבי החומר, המחפש את מה שהוא נוגע למדתו הפרטית, וזהו יסוד ההודאה, תודה קדשים קלים. והודו לזכר קדשו.  

Sing to Hashem, His pious ones [Chasidim], and give thanks for the remembrance of His holiness. The foundation of Chasidism [piety] is the love of kindness, the aspiration for absolute goodness. As it grows in the heart, until it is incorporated into the nature of the soul, immediately the light of the life of God's wonderful grace is revealed, and the soul is filled with the song of Hashem, the song of the worlds, beyond all measure and count, beyond all feelings of gratitude, because the essence of gratitude compels recognition from the recipient of the good toward the giver who bestows it, in His abundant grace. Indeed, from the musical elevation, full of the light of grace, it is revealed as a branch, even at the sunset of the soul-illuminating sun. Then it is not the essence of grace itself, from the perspective that is incomprehensible to the recipient of the graces, that awakens the musical power, but the remembrance of the sanctity, of the light of grace, which is not completely hidden, even though its heavens are covered in the layers of matter, searching for what touches its particular measure, and this is the basis of thanksgiving, the "Todah" offering is kodshim kalim [a lower level of sanctity]. And give thanks to the remembrance of His holiness.

So first we have זמרו לה' חסידיו where the Chasidim sing to Hashem a song of gratitude which is beyond measure. It can't be called mere "thanks" because it defies all limits. Then there is a lower level where we just *remember* [even though it is not completely evident anymore] and can now give thanks [within limits] to the remembrance of his holiness. This is on the lower of level of קדשים קלים like the קרבן תודה.
