The US Department of Homeland Security announced the arrest of a senior professor at Harvard Law School who was charged with firing shots near a synagogue on Yom Kippur.
The lecturer, a Brazilian citizen, agreed to leave the US voluntarily. Frankly, Brazil doesn't want him either. So he will be emigrating to Qatar where he will teach courses in Chinese Basket Weaving and African Dance [they don't have law professors because they follow sharia law].
Carlos Portugal Gouvêa [pronounced goy-avay] was arrested on October 2 after firing several air-rifle shots outside a synagogue in Brookline, Massachusetts. When apprehended, he told police he was “hunting Jews, I mean rats. But it is OK because I am a Harvard Professor and I understand better than all of you.”
On November 13, Gouvêa admitted to both the unlawful use of an air rifle as part of a plea agreement and also desecrating the sanctity of Yom Kippur. Doesn't look like he is getting any atonement this year. Additional charges - disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and property damage and being a complete loser - were dropped. Two weeks after his arrest, his visa was revoked, and immigration agents took him into custody this past Wednesday. He agreed to leave the US for Qatar before a formal deportation order is issued.
Harvard President Alan Garber defended his professor and said "It all depends on context. This episode should be seen in that light. He was trying to bring home the point to the Jews that today, Yam KiPPER, their very lives hang in the balance. As a Jew, I can appreciate that".
Trisha McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, issued a harsh statement: “It is a privilege to work and study in the US, not a right. There is no place for such violent and crude acts of antisemitism - they undermine our core principles and pose a threat to law-abiding American citizens. And as for his claim that he is a Harvard Professor so it is OK - I would rather pick 100 random names from the Manhattan phone book to run our country than the faculty of Harvard.”
McLaughlin added: “The Department of Homeland Security is not obligated to accept foreign nationals who commit such acts, nor to allow them to remain in the US.”
President Trump wrote in his Truth Social account with his usual tact and dignity: "We gotta get these CRAZY MANIACS that Sleepy Joe Biden let in, out of our country! Let them go back to the jungles they came from. This Portugal Harvard idiot [let him go back to Portugal], Ilhan Omar and the entire Somalian population of Minnesota. And they should take Wicked Wimpy Waltz with them. OUT!!"
