"...ואני מבקשך בני אהובי שלא תלך כלל בדאגות רק לשמוח בחלקך. תהילה לאל אשר זכית להיות עוסק בתורה ומצות ולא שם חלקך מיושבי קרנות... ולא נכון לאברך כמוך לילך תמיד בהתבוננות ומחשבות רק לעסוק בתורה ומצות כי הרבה יותר ויותר זוכה האדם על ידי תורה מעל ידי שכלו ורעיונותיו בפרט בימי הנעורים. כפי רוב עסק התורה יטהרו מחשבותיך ולא תדאג רק קוה אל ה' תמיד כי הוא בוראך והוא יעזור לך בוודאי, ותשמור הפשוט של כל מצווה ומצווה ולא לבקש גדולות רק לשמוח בקיום מצות ה' כעל כל הון... ותקח לך מידת הזריזות... שלא לילך בטלית על הכתף ברעיונות רק לזכור בזריזות שהיא מצות הבורא ב"ה. כי ברגע אחד בזריזות יעלה לך יותר מכל אלו החשבונות. רק איזה מינוטין ביום להתבונן ביראת ה'... ובטוח אני שאם תלך בדרך הזה תעלה ותצלח בכל אשר תפנה, וכל מעשיך יהיו לשם שמים, ולא לפרוש מן הציבור, כי כדאי לבטל אף דבר טוב בעבור שיהיה שווה לכל, כי ה' בוחן לבבות וכל התנועות שמבחוץ יצא שכרן בהפסדן; ואשר אמרת שתלך לבית החסידים אם כי אינך מרגיש תועלת - טוב מאוד להיות מעורב עם החסידים..."
"... And I ask you, my beloved son, not to worry at all, but only to be happy with your lot. Praise be to God who has granted you the merit to be engaged in Torah and mitzvos and has not made your portion among those who sit at street corners... And it is not right for a young man like you to always walk in contemplation and thoughts, only to engage in Torah and mitzvot, because a person gains much more and more through Torah than through his intellect and ideas, especially in his youth. Commensurate to your toil in Torah, your thoughts will be purified, and you will not worry, only hope in the Lord always, for He is your Creator and He will surely help you. And you will keep the simple meaning of each and every commandment, and not seek greatness, but rather rejoice in fulfilling the commandments of the Lord as if they were all your wealth... And you will take the trait of alacrity [זריזות]... Not to walk with a tallis on the shoulder in thoughts, but rather to remember with alacrity that it is a commandment from the Creator, blessed be He. Because one instant of alacrity is worth more than all of the thoughts. Just a few minutes a day to contemplate the fear of God... And I am sure that if you follow this path, you will rise and succeed in everything you turn to, and all your deeds will be for the sake of Heaven, and do not separate yourself from the community, because it is worthwhile to even forgo something good so that it you will be equal to all, for God examines hearts and the reward of all external movements will be outweighed by the loss; and what you said about going to the Beis Chasidim, even though you do not feel any benefit - it is very good to be among the Chasidim..."
What is interesting is that the middos of taking advatage of time to learn and zrizus actually were a defining middos of the Imrei Emes. He didn't waste a milli-second. Every moment was 'קודש לה - mostly for learning.
