The Rambam [Shabbos 12/1] says that it is assur to burn an object of his enemy out of anger on Shabbos because there is something constructive that emerges - namely that he calms down!! Thus it is not defined as a destructive act which would absolve him.
והמבעיר גדישו של חבירו או השורף דירתו חייב אע"פ שהוא משחית. מפני שכוונתו להנקם משונאו והרי נתקררה דעתו ושככה חמתו ונעשה כקורע על מתו או בחמתו שהוא חייב. ובחובל בחבירו בשעת מריבה שכל אלו מתקנים הן אצל יצרן הרע.
The Raavad doesn't mince words:
כל זה הבל ורעות רוח.
OUCHHHH!!!!!
There is so much Torah on the other parts of this Halacha in the Rambam but the machlokes between him and the Raavad is all but ignored. What is the root of their dispute?? [See Shabbos 105b for the Rambam's source].
