Why does almost every Jewish story start with the subjects financial status?
Once upon a time, there was a very poor man... There was once a very wealthy man... There was once a man that was doing OK, able to pay his rent to his Polish poritz... There was once a miser.
I am going to tell a story to my kids this Shabbos: "Once upon a time there was a man. I really have NO IDEA how money he had. Do we EVER really know how much money people have??! I don't know. Maybe he was rich. Maybe poor. Maybe middle class or upper or lower middle class. I don't know. One thing I know for sure - the Dow Jones is NOT doing well these days. I am investing my money in 'zoom'".
