Regarding the previous post - the following was brought to my attention:
"A draft version of proposed changes to these recommendations was posted in error to the agency’s official website. CDC is currently updating its recommendations regarding airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19). Once this process has been completed, the update language will be posted."
Conclusion: The CDC doesn't KNOW how this virus works. NOBODY DOES. Not people on Facebook or other social media who are telling the world that this is all fake news, not the guy who sits next to you [six feet away] in your [backyard] shul, not your bubby, not NOBODY.
There is a quirk in human nature to want to understand how things work in this world so when we don't know [which is often the case], we make things up and then present them as facts. Then we feel better. A contemporary example are those who explain why the Lord has brought this upon us. You know? He told you? He communicates with you in a clear and lucid way? Or maybe saying "I don't understand anything", acknowledging that Hashem's thoughts faaaaaar transcend ours, is too big a blow to our ego? Maybe feeling ignorant makes us uncomfortable. It is OK!! We are all in the same VERY SHAKY boat!! The future is unclear, the past often seems to make no sense and the present is SCARY.
I LOVE saying this:
בְּנַפְשׁו יָבִיא לַחְמוֹ
מָשׁוּל כְּחֶרֶס הַנִּשְׁבָּר
כְּחָצִיר יָבֵשׁ וּכְצִיץ נובֵל
כְּצֵל עוֹבֵר וּכְעָנָן כָּלָה
וּכְרוּחַ נושָׁבֶת וּכְאָבָק פּורֵחַ
וְכַחֲלוֹם יָעוּף
SOOOO HUMBLING and SOOOOO TRUE!!!
This virus is new and the world is slowly trying to figure things out. My advice: Err on the side of CAUTION!! Being too careful won't get you sick or kill you. Not being careful enough is a different story. לא מפי אנטוני פוצ'י אנו חיין if I may paraphrase the Gemara.
Over 30 million people have gotten it and the numbers rise significantly daily. It is like the prohibition against drinking blood. It is anyway gross but when we are careful about it we get a mitzva. Similarly, we all want to live and be healthy and being careful is a mitzva. Here both our yetzer tov and yetzer hara [who is a self centered egotist] are on board.
Which makes it so BIZZARRE that so many people are so careless.
