It is well known that the problem with many big Rabbonim is not they themselves chas vi-shalom. The problem is the אנשי החצר - people in their courts, who often have their own agendas.
Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach [related to "Red"? להבדיל א"א הבדלות!!!] was one of the poskei hador. He had no אנשי החצר. You just stood outside his apartment at [I believe] 1:30 pm and patiently waited your turn. [I remember going a number of times and there were small lines, if any]. No fanfare. No paparazzi. Just a pious, devout, elderly Sage who wanted to make the world a holier place and generously gave of his time to whomever wanted. He hated being photographed and was nauseated when people gave him bombastic titles.
He said that "בחצר שלי מסתובבים רק חתולים".
