I was asked by a sweet friend about using musical instruments in a shul for davening. In the Beis Hamikdash they used musical instruments - that would be a nice precedent:-).
HOWEVER, the Chasam Sofer strictly forbade this both because it is the way of the goyim to play music during their prayers and also because of mourning over the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash.
