There is a common phenomenon in the world - even among Jews [!!!]. People pledge money to a cause and then renege on their promise. Organizations hire people to extract donations from people who already promised but don't follow through. Very troubling given the quality of the people who are guilty of this and the dimensions of this phenomenon.
There is a community where, according to their Rav, people will publicly promise one sum of money during an appeal but when they give the check it is double the amount. THAT is amazing!
