Bryant Gumbel. Famous sports personality. My dream as a child was to do what he does - get paid enormous sums of money to talk about sports [the truth is that I didn't think abt. the money. I just liked the prospect of being able to talk sports for a living].
But how did he get a Jewish name like "Gumbel" [like the department chain "Gimbels" which of course is named after the Jewish founder].
First - a rule for life: Assume that somehow EVERYONE you meet is somehow connected to Jews. You will usually be right. [Quick examples: Trump, Biden, the Clintons, all w/ Jewish relatives].
Back to Bryant. His great great grandpa was a Jewish slave owner. One of the perks of being his slave apparently was that you got to have children with him....
So his great great grandma was a slave who bore the child of her Jewish slave owner. The name Gumbel stuck. Who knows - maybe he will return to his roots this Rosh Hashana and do teshuva [reading his bio - he can use some...].
