Shabbos 67b: Getting The Most Out Of Your Oil

One may place a fistful of salt into a lamp so that it will burn more brightly [it is not forbidden magic but a method of gaining more light]. And one may place mud or clay beneath a lamp so that it will burn more slowly [since this is also not a magical practice].

Here is where daf yomi meets Chanuka....

If a person only puts enough oil to kindle for 25 minutes he is not yotzei. But let's say that after lighting with 25 minutes of oil he then added salt, clay or mud thus causing the candle to burn for the requisite half hour. Can we say that it turned out the he really had enough oil for the half hour and didn't have to add so he is yotzei or do we say that when he lit there was not enough oil to last the whole time so he is not yotzei.

Think about it. Ask another talmid chochom. Then get back to me with an answer....
