One of the people killed during the pogrom on Simchas Torah was an Olah from Brazil named Brona. They were afraid that there wouldn't be a minyan at the funeral so messages were sent around at 9pm asking people to come. By 9:20 there was a big traffic jam of people who wanted to attend.
Over 1,000 people [!!!!] came.
It wasn't a funeral for a stranger b/c in Am Yisrael there are no strangers.
