Be There When Hashem Comes

Everyone knows the acronym of Elul:  אני לדודי ודודי לי – I am to my beloved and my beloved is to me. The gemara [Brachos 6] says that when Hashem comes to shul and he doesn't find 10 people there, He [kviyachol] becomes angry. The period between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur is called a time when Hashem is with us. דרשו השם בהמצאו  seek Hashem out when he is found – these are the ten days between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur [Rosh Hashana 18a]. So too, we have to prepare ourselves and come early to be present when Hashem comes to dwell among us – otherwise we will G-d forbid arouse divine displeasure. If we prepare ourselves – אני לדודי – I am to my beloved, then we will merit ודודי לי – My beloved will be to me.
