Trying To Fulfill The Dream

An entry from my diary.....

I have a dream. No, I am not Martin Luther King [although I pray to the King and used to LOVE Bernard King - li-havdil], am not black [although back in the day I tried to play bo' like one of the brothas - I liked to walk with a swagger and stick my tongue out like Jordan. That was where the resemblance ended], don't want to be gunned down [may Hashem guard me always - I have children and want to them have a father. The biological one:-)], and Civil Rights have been achieved. Some people say that even the President of the United States is black. Unconfirmed.

I have a different type of dream. To open a yeshiva. I believe that this yeshiva will ROCK. There will be such simcha, such an aliyah in Avodas Hashem, such intense learning that it will remain with the students for eternity. That is my dream and I think that with G-d's help it will happen.

However, obstacles present themselves. First, Sandy. Hard to recruit new students when people are homeless. It is sad for everyone and for me personally not the best timing. Second, many schools will not let me address the students. They want yeshivas that have a track record. By golly, I can only have a track record if I first attract students. 20 years in chinuch counts for something, I think. Of course I understand their position. They are afraid to send their students to a new yeshiva and don't want that responsibility. But from my end it is VERY difficult to draw students if the schools don't allow me to present my vision.

Today thank G-d I went to MTA. They were VERY nice to me and allowed me to speak to the students. I enjoyed and hope they did, too. When someone is nice to you and tries to help it triggers a sense of appreciation.

So thank you Rabbi Shulman [Israel Guidance counselor] and thank you MTA.

A special thank you to the many talmidim of Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchanan who approached me to say hello.

:-)
