Regarding two recent posts and the upcoming chag hashvuos -
Rus was told by Naomi before she converted that we Jews may not serve idols [see 1/16 with Rashi]. The Maharsha asks - Why is this different than what Rus had already been commanded? Even goyim may not serve idols as it is one of the sheva mitzvos bnei noach??
The answer may be that at Sinai we were completely uprooted from our status as bnei noach and acquired a brand new title - Jew. Therefore, the sheva mitzvos no longer apply and if not for the special commandment of Sinai we would be allowed to serve idols. Being a Jew is a completely new metzius. It is not a "goy-plus" but a בריה בפני עצמה - a new reality.
