Where I spent a beautiful Simchas Torah, I watched a lot of people who were drinking and getting tipsy - to very tipsy - to drunk, as part of the celebration.
I wondered - How come a chosson doesn't need to drink to get happy? I mean, you look at the chosson and he is on cloud NINE - sans alcohol. Why? B/c he is so excited-intoxicated about the kallah that he needs no external intoxicators.
Maybe if on Simchas Torah people were genuinely happier about the *kallah* - they wouldn't need the booze.
