For Chess Or Against?

Rav Genechovski Ztz"l once went into the dorm and saw the boys were up really late playing chess. He said "It must be hard for you to sleep and I can't sleep either so let's learn." They learned all night until the morning and then they davened vasikin.

The boys said that the chizuk they got from his approach was greater than any admonishment that they could have received.

Another time a kollel man was depressed and was staying at his parents. Rav Genechovski called him and said "Maybe you'd like to play chess??"
