A relative of Rov Genechovski ztz"l wanted to get accepted to a certain institution and was having trouble. The Rov was asked to call the head of the institution but refused. When asked why he explained. I once did this person a favor. When I was in Chutz La-aretz I got him in touch with a certain wealthy man [this writer could use a few of those for HIS fledgling institution. Readers??] and I have a rule. When I do a favor for somebody I never ask for a favor in return."

Is that NORMAL?? The way of the world is JUST THE OPPOSITE!

PS - His talmid called this person and related that the Rov won't ask for this favor and explained why and the person agreed to accept the student.
