When the Jews crossed the sea and the Egyptians drowned, the angels wanted to sing to Hashem and Hashem said מעשי ידי טובעים בים ואתם אומרים שירה? - My handiwork is drowning in the sea and you are singing to me?

This means that Hashem felt PAIN at the loss of the Egyptians even though they were a rotten bunch of people to say the least [contemporary example - ISIS]. There was also a TREMENDOUS Kiddush Hashem involved. DESPITE THAT, Hashem felt pain. So imagine how Hashem "feels" when a Jew suffers and there is no Kiddush Hashem involved? When a Jew is not living as he should. It must be terrible!

Now, we know that מדה טובה מרובה - the good is always more powerful than the bad. Hashem created the world for good and thus that is always greater than the bad. So what happens when a Jew is happy? When a Jew does what he is supposed to do? When a Jew fulfills his purpose and is filled with joy? The Divine happiness must be super-super-intense.

Now we have an inkling of what the pasuk means when it says ישמח ה' במעשיו - Hashem will be happy with his deeds. In the future, when we reach our purpose, Hashem will be FILLED with simcha.
