About 20 years back, a friend contacted me and said that he is interested in sponsoring a seder of a needy family that I would set him up with. I approached a man in the neighborhood who I knew was needy and offered to pay for his seder via my friend. He didn't want to take the money before he was assured that my friend was Shomer Shabbos. Only after I assured him that he is did he take me up on the offer. It turned out that this man had a lot of children and grandchildren at his seder and it cost more than my friend was thinking to give [it was about $1,000 if I remember correctly] - but he made good on his offer.
