The Soul Knows

Lizchus my beloved friend Rebbe Ephraim Abba Gervis and all his family for bracha and hatzlacha!!!

The Gerrer Rebbe ztz"l Rebbe Pinchas Menachem Alter had a son who was very holy named R' Yehuda Aryeh. He was a Tzadik in his actions and a Gaon in his learning. At a very young age he had already mastered a phenomenal amount of Torah which was exceeded only by his Yiras Shomayim, elevated levels of Avodas Hashem and middos tovos. [His father in law was the Ungvar Rav and posek, Rav Menashe Klein ztz"l].

He was involved in a horrific car accident in Elul of 1987, 32 years ago and died weeks later after terrible Yisurim. He left many hints about his impending demise.

1] On his last Hoshana Rabba [before chatzos when one can see in the moon what one's fate will be, as is well known] he said to his wife that he accepts upon himself Yisurim. She was horrified and said that she doesn't agree. He nodded and said "You agree, you agree".

2] 5 days before the accident, he asked a friend in detail about someone who suffered head injuries in a car accident in his neighborhood. He wanted to know all the details about what happens when a person suffers such an injury. Then he said "Let's go to the grave of Shmuel Hanavi where we can bring about "yeshuos"".

3] Two days before his accident he told the story about Rav Simcha Bunim of Pshischa whose wife was crying before he passed away. He said "Why are you crying? My whole life I lived in order to learn how to die". His wife said "Can't you learn more?". Rav Simcha Bunim answered "I have learned enough...".

4] On his last Motzei Shabbos, his wife woke up and noticed that he had been staring out the window for hours. She asked what he is looking at. He said "I myself don't know. I have a feeling that big things are about to happen".

5] The night before the accident between Mincha and Maariv, he said to a boy in the Beis Medrash "Listen, from tomorrow it is going to be either REALLY good or REALLY bad".

The boy asked how he knows. he answered "I said so".

6] Before the accident, he put away his selichos, saying "who knows if I will need them again?". His wife couldn't understand what he meant. "Tomorrow you say selichos?". He said "Who said that I will get up at all tomorrow? Maybe I will get up late".

7] The last words he ever said to his wife were "Know that what I did was "לשם שמים".

8] After the accident, the following note was found in his handwriting:

"הנה באים ימים נוראים, ימים גדולים, ימים נוראים, אנא התפללו עלי זכרוני ואזכרכם יהודא אריה"

ZCHUS HATZADIK TAAMOD LANU!!!!
