Elisha the Navi said "Now bring me a musician." And as the musician played the hand of Hashem came upon him. [Melachim 2, 3/15]
Explained the Kotzker - Someone who is a kosher musician and has no personal interests or biases and plays for Hashems sake, can bring the geula closer, as the chamber of "niggun" is close to the chamber of Moshiach. Then "The hand of Hashem came upon him". And that is the meaning of the words כנגן המנגן - the musician played a niggun. Just as the niggun [i.e. the musical instrument] has no ulterior motives, so the musician should have none.
