Chief Rabbinate: Close Shuls Daven Outside 2 Meters Away

Kashya - They say to take out the sefer Torah: HOW ON EARTH DO YOU HAVE KRIYAS HATORAH WHEN EVERYBODY IS STANDING TWO METERS APART?

That is what the good doctor [who is frum] said in his letter in the previous post.

I don't get this "frumkeit"!!! Close to 20,000 people already dead, hundreds of thousands [probably millions] are ill. And we are worried about a Takana that Moshe Rabbeinu [who promulgated the decree to read] would never want us to keep. He wants his people ALIVE so that they can do mitzvos for many years to come. We MUST be mechalel Shabbos to save a life. But for Kriyas ha-Torah and Tfilla Bi-tzibbur we risk life and limb. 馃槦馃槥

I DON'T GET IT!!! I am open to hearing explanations. But I haven't davened with a minyan in about a week and am not planning to until the medical authorities assure us that we won't die from it.

Good thing is that very few people follow the Chief Rabbinate. The Charedim certainly don't. They have their own authorities. The Chilonim don't. For obvious reasons. Those in the middle will also generally follow their own Rabbanim [except for those who decide on their own]. The Chief Rabbinate is not as glorious as it sounds. It is also highly politicized. That is not to take away from the personal importance of the two Chief Rabbis. It goes without saying that they are both Talmidei Chachomim [Rav Yosef is actually an exceptional Talmid Chochom as evidenced by his dozens of sfarim] and sincere Jews. But this psak is troubling, in my opinion.
