The Fourth Of July

Imagine.

Imagine we were not permitted to practice our religion. No learning Torah. No davening. No bris milah. No marriage according to Jewish law. Nothing. Anyone caught doing anything Jewish is sent to jail, Antarctica or killed.

But we can't give up and we do things underground with the constant fear of being caught. Scary!

In fact the Jews lived under horrible religious persecution for many centuries all over the world. But not America. In America by force of the law we can practice Torah freely and openly.

I think the stark contrast between out present reality and our historical fate is lost on us because we were born into freedom. But we must not lose sight of how fortunate we are. So yes - Israel is the true Jewish Homeland, but that doesn't prevent me from saying ....
