לרפואת רבי אהרן לייב בן גיטל פייגע!!!
The Mishna in Eduyos says that the geulah [from Egypt] was counted with the number of generations [ודור רביעי ישובו הנה] whereas the galus is counted with years [400]. So too, says the Gr"a, the future geulah is counted with generations - but not those of father to son but Rav to talmid.
Based on this Gra, Rav Hutner was wont to explain the gemara that says that ושננתם לבניך refers to your talmidim. The obvious question is - So why not just say לתלמידך? Why beat around the bush and say לבניך? The answer based on the Gra is that the gemara is teaching that your students are like children in the sense that the generations are counted in the context of Rav-Talmid. These relationships will bring the geula.
That is why the Rambam [פרק ל' מהלכות שבת] says that the Rebbi would go out with his students to receive Shabbos. Shabbos is a miniature geulah and we anticipate it in a Rebbi-talmid way which brings the geula.
A lot of people think that they don't need a Rebbi. Not only do they need a Rebbi, but all of Klal Yisrael, all of the cosmos, need a person to have a Rebbi. The redemption depends on it.
