Since I have BARUCH HASHEM reached the age of "עצה" [as we learn "בן חמישים לעצה"] - I will take the liberty [GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!] of sharing some - with love😎😘 . Here is part one:
I always see these ads promoting making learning Torah quick and easy.
I am in favor of Talmud Torah in all forms [as long as it is done with Yiras Shomayim]. I love Torah and am happy when people learn.
But I want to make it clear. Learning is not quick and easy. It should be enjoyable [as per the famous-famous-famous Hakdama of the Iglei Tal] but requires hard work. 10-20 minutes for two sides of the page means you are not going to understand it very well and if you don't review you certainly won't retain it. 7 or 11 or 14 minutes of a little bit of lomdus is a nice Torah-dike "snack" and much-much-much better than just about anything else you could be doing but won't propel you to the *next level*.
It is highly unfortunate when men in their 30's and 40's and beyond still struggle with basic comprehension of our fundamental texts. They are really missing out. It is not b/c they are not intelligent enough. They are always college graduates and often have Masters and PhD's as well. They just never put in ENOUGH concerted effort to gain the necessary skills and knowledge.
Since if you are reading this it means that you are alive - don't despair!!! There is hope. Take the long route that is the short route. Make sure that whatever you learn - you understand. Make sure that you memorize all of the words and concepts. Resolve to learn more and "batel" less so that you can gain yediyos in Tanach, Shas and Halacha.
There are really no short cuts.
