Rich But Naive - We Aren't The Same

Sheryl Sandburg, the COO of Facebook, gave the commencement address at the MIT graduation on Friday. Among other things, she spoke out in FAVOR of yichud:

A few months ago, LeanIn.org surveyed people to understand how the #MeToo movement was influencing work. After so many brave women spoke out, we found evidence of an unintended backlash: Almost half of male managers in the U.S. are now uncomfortable having a work meeting alone with a woman and even more uncomfortable having a work dinner alone with a female colleague.

..... For the men here: Someone may pull you aside in your first week at work and say, "never be alone with a woman."

You know they're wrong. You know how to work with all people. So give them advice instead.

Tell them they have the responsibility to make access equal for women and that if they don't feel comfortable having dinner with women, they shouldn't have dinner with men. Group lunches for everyone.

She might have 1.85 billion dollars [according to Forbes] be that doesn't stop her from being naïve. Really naïve. It is not that EVERY TIME and man and a woman are secluded, something inappropriate will happen. Or even most of the time. But it DOES happen, so who is she kidding. When a man is secluded with a woman he finds attractive, he wants to go to bed with her. Plain and simple. If he doesn't do so, it is due to external factors [she isn't interested, he will lose his job, he will feel guilty etc.], but certainly not due to lack of desire. Once a relationship is formed, many women want the same thing [men generally don't really need the relationship to form in advance].

Her attitude stems, I believe, from her feminist beliefs of complete equality between men and women. There can never be complete equality between men and women because men and women aren't equal or the same. Not that women shouldn't be treated with respect or be paid as much as men, but sweeping the reality of the many differences between the genders together with man's powerful sexual urges under the carpet, is anywhere from foolish to dangerous.

See the previous post that the antidote to illicit desire is Torah and without Torah one gravitates towards bodily pleasures. I am not sure that everybody in Silicon Valley is such a big masmid.... וד"ל.
