In today's daf yomi shiur, the topic of women's learning Torah came up. What is interesting is that the difference between the "modern" girl's schools and the more traditional or "Charedi" schools is whether the girls open up the actual Gemara or the teacher tells them what the Gemara says [even Rav Falk of Gateshead would teach Gemaros in his Halacha classes at the seminary there] or the Gemara is quoted in a source sheet. But de facto - every frum girl is learning Torah Shebial Peh in our day and age [with the possible exception of Satmar girls], for the first time in the history of our people. [In the olden days, many women couldn't read].
Is this development good or bad?
It doesn't matter!!! It is the reality. So our job is to see all of the positive that emanates from it. Hashem runs the show and He brought about this development so it definitely serves a positive purpose.
We should also remember that in the end, the purpose of teaching girls so much Torah is to increase Yiras Shomayim, Ahavas Hashem, Middos Tovos etc. etc. etc. and not to transform girls and women into cold, cerebral "academic scholars".
