קץ

 וייקץ means in many places "to wake up" [as in "וייקץ יעקב משנתו" in this week's parsha]. 

The שורש of "קץ" can also mean to be disgusted, as Rivka said "קצתי בחיי מפני בנות חת"  or  וַיְהִי שָׂטָן לְיִשְׂרָאֵל כׇּל יְמֵי שְׁלֹמֹה וְאֶת הָרָעָה אֲשֶׁר הֲדָד וַיָּקָץ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּמְלֹךְ עַל אֲרָם - And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, beside the evil that Hadad did; and he abhorred Israel and reigned over Aram. 

It also means "summer" as in קיץ. 

It also means "the end" as in "קץ כל בשר בא לפני" and dozens of other places in Tanach.

A קוץ is a thorn. 

Wake up, disgusted, summer, the end, thorn. All the same word. What is GOING ON here??
