Big Tefillin - Narrow Sleeve
YU is having a commemaration of Rav Soloveitchik's 20th yahrtzeit. This is wonderful! His legacy should never be forgotten. I saw that one of the topics was "The Multiple Faces of the Rav". Being "two-faced" is no compliment. I would have preferred "The Multiple Aspects of The Rav" or something like that.
:)
In any event, a myseh with the Rav: When he became older, he stopped davening Shachris with a jacket. Many interpretations of his behavior were offered until someone actually asked him.
He explained that he started wearing the tefillin of his grandfather Rav Chaim and that they were very big and didn't fit into his sleeve. But to wear his jacket without the sleeve is not the way one would come before a king [and thus not before the King of Kings] so he stopped wearing the jacket altogether.

[Rav Chaim Kniyevsky also paskened that one shouldn't wear one's tefillin outside the sleeve of his jacket]
