There are many kofrim [deniers of G-d] walking around. Some are sitting down. Others are sleeping. But there are a heck of a lot of them around רח"ל.
Is it dangerous to study freely and investigate and seek the truth? If one reads things that seem to contradict our faith, is he in danger of joining the ranks of the kofrim רח"ל?
Yes ... and no. It depends.
If one has absorbed and internalized the essence of our faith, the mystical and rational basis for our traditions - NOTHING can shake him. He will remain firm. But a person who is not firmly grounded is in danger. He should refrain from excessive reading and searching for he is in danger of veering from the path.
First - base yourself firmly within our faith and only then investigate further. When you are in that solid place both on an intellectual and emotional level - everything you learn will just enhance your faith.

החקירה החפשית, אינה יכולה להזיק את הלב שכבר קלט בתוכו את העומק
התמציתי של מהות האמונה, שהוא יסוד העילוי הנשמתי היותר בהיר של האדם, אדרבה, עוד
תוסיף עליו גודל ויפעה. אבל כל זמן שהתמצית העליון לא נקלט יפה בלב, עד שכשל כחו
לנהל את חיי המעשה וההרגש, אז כל חקירה חפשית, מקעקעת היא את היסוד של אפשרות
פעולת הרגש הטוב, העומד למעלה מהשכל ההגיוני, וממילא תתהפך חקירה זו אח"כ
למין כפירה עקשנית, שהיא אחת ממדוי הנפש היותר גדולים.
