The Jewish people are composed of many bodies. But we are also ONE soul. This soul is pure and completely righteous, when it is actualized it includes all of the moral goodness possible. However, the downside is that when a person has a moral blemish, it weakens his connection to the greater soul of the Jewish people. The beginning of teshuva is to reconnect to the soul of the Jewish nation and part of that is to fix his ways and deeds to fit them back together with the essential nature of the soul of our people.
נשמתה של כנסת ישראל היא הצדק המוחלט, שבהתגשמותו הוא כולל את כל
הטוב המוסרי שבפועל. על כן כל פגם מוסרי, שהאיש היחידי מישראל עושה, מחליש הוא בזה
את קישורו עם נשמת האומה כולה. והתשובה הראשונה היא להתקשר עם האומה בנשמתה, ועמה
הכרח הוא לתקן את הדרכים והמעשים כולם לפי אותו התוכן המהותי שבנשמת האומה.
