A few comments on this post:
] It is a fulfillment of the pasuk
] In order to fully appreciate the Talmud one needs to study intensively for years. With a few classes here and there from people who themselves are far from being Talmidei Chachomim they are only going to get a most superficial perspective.
] Without learning with the belief that the Talmud is not only filled with wisdom but with sanctity they are missing the WHOLE point.
] How many Jews there are who don't appreciate not only the sanctity of the Talmud but even the WISDOM of talmud! So Jews give BILLIONS of dollars to universities and many give NOT A PENNY to yeshivos. Nor do they give their children even a rudimentary knowledge of the Talmud. We are not even on the level of the South Koreans. Nebuch.
] Even frum Jews often don't fully appreciate what the Talmud means to us. If all of the frum Jews would give just TEN PERCENT of their money to yeshivos, then all of the yeshivos would thrive. Right now they are choking and Rabbeim get paid starvation wages ואין קול ואין עונה. [I am not writing because I have a personal stake. I stopped teaching years ago and now earn no salary which is only slightly less than what I was earning back then. And I am MUCH happier. Hodu Lashem!! But what about our yeshivos, kollelim and Rabbeim?]
] Many Modern Orthodox parents would MUCH RATHER see their child in Harvard or Yale than in Mir or Lakewood. WHY? The Torah is MUCH DEEPER AND COMPLEX [and holier] that anything they are learning in Ivy League colleges! The answer of course is in Koheles "והכסף יענה את הכל".
] In the classroom, the students paired up for “Talmudic debate.” Their dialectic centered on a paraphrased verse from Deuteronomy: “Money improperly earned may not be donated to church.”
