Johnny Carson, the famous television personality, was about to marry his third wife. His lawyer strongly advised him to sign a pre-nup, given Johnny's own admission that he was really bad at being married [he had a weakness for beautiful women and his marital status in no way impacted that]. Everything was ready and the "Kallah" was willing to sign. She understood that rich Carson was and was assured a nice settlement in case of divorce. At the last minute Carson told his lawyer to rip up the contract as this was no way to start a marriage. The lawyer fought hard to get Carson to change his mind, but to no avail. He was infatuated and there was to be no talk of a breakup.
This faux pas ["פאשלה" in Portuguese] ended up costing Carson 35 million dollars....
One signature that was willingly forthcoming and he would have saved himself tremendous heartache and a fortune of money.
One mussar haskel: Don't make rash, fateful decisions when swept up by emotions. Emotions come and go. Dumb mistakes can haunt one forever.
