They once brought a letter to Rav Shteinman to sign, which praised people who gave tzdaka, in which it said אילו פינו מלא שירה כים ולשוננו רינה etc. [which is how we praise Hashem on Shabbos morning]. Rav Shteinman asked how much they gave in order to be Hashem. "A lot" he was told.
He refused to sign.
