Ha-Gaon Rav Shlomo Fischer might have been THE Gadol Ha-dol. Not only did he know everything but everything in every area of Torah imaginable but he knew it in depth and by heart [with endless chiddushim on everything].
Yet, in the secular press - barely a word about him. They never heard of him in his lifetime and not after his passing. They can only understand people who are involved in politics. They have no השגה of people who are pure Torah-Torah-Torah. Even the Gedolim who they heard of and read about they don't understand. B/c Rav Steinman and Rav Shmuel Auerbach and Rav Schach etc. etc. זכר צדיקים לברכה were all about Torah, Shas and Meforshim. The "political" activism was an outgrowth of that which they would have LOVED to avoid.
Even in the religious world Rav Fischer was incredibly underappreciated. So I just want to be מוחה על כבוד תורתו של הגאון האדיר רבי שלמה פישר זצ"ל and encourage everybody to connect to גדולי ישראל אמיתיים. Having popular videos on youtube or a facebook page not only doesn't qualify one as a Gadol but quite often actually disqualifies one. וד"ל.
Our world appreciates those surrounded by a swarm of paparazzi etc. etc. But people whose whole life is Avodas Hashem completely bores them. That is why Mishpacha or Ami will never do a feature story on a regular avrech who learns 3 sdarim a day, lives with a minimum of gashmiyus and just tries to be a solid Eved Hashem. There is nothing interesting or novel about that. It won't sell. People in politics, big money, CEO's, entertainers etc. etc. THOSE sell.
But the quiet, unassuming Talmidei Chachomim who are NOT in the public eye, DON'T make millions, haven't been divorced 3 times, are the GREATEST people on the planet earth. If you can support one - don't wait for an ad on social media. Find him, support him and his family and earn yourself a sure place in the world to come. If you don't have the money - then at least when you meet one share some kind, appreciative words.
In a TRUE WORLD there would have been millions at Rav Fischer's levaya.
