Years ago when I lived in the Old City, I was acquainted with a Jew named R' Dr. Rafi Pozen z"l. His family published a book after his passing which included his correspondence with a famous religious female personality and educator. When he told her that he was going on Shlichut for a few years to Chu"l she was NOT happy. This is what she wrote:
"כל תקוותי היא שילדיך ירגישו עצמם ברע שם, שירגישו את החיים הלא אמיתיים
האלה, של המתפללים לשיבת ציון, של האומרים בליל הסדר ובסיום יוה"כ - אחרי
כל הווידויים - "לשנה הבאה ב..." ואין חושבים כלל על כך ומעיזים לומר בפני
הקב"ה שקר גמור זה!
ואיך אתה יכול לְלַמֵד "והשיבנו לציון ברנה" - הלא
אם זה רציני, על האומר לקום ולשוב: הרי איש לא יתפלל "והאכילני בחסדך אוכל
כשר יום יום", והוא הולך לאטליז טריפה וקונה שם!"
I also believe that Jews should [all other things being equal] ideally live in Israel [mostly b/c Hashem told us clearly in many places that He does too.....😊😀]. But I would have not written with such harshness.
