In a case of Pikuach Nefesh one MUST be מחלל שבת.
If there is a war in Israel and one is in America but wants to stay up to date, that is NOT a heter to be מחלל שבת chas vi-shalom.
One misguided lady who identifies as an Orthodox Jewess and is very active on social media "paskened" for herself that she doesn't have to keep Shabbos. So last Shabbos she was using her computer, tweeting away.
She [לכאורה] is חייבת כרת, has a din of מחללת שבת בפרהסיא and if she moves wine one may not drink it b/c דינה כגוי.
On that note I saw a letter from a married woman in a "ask the rav" column where she presented her dilemma about stopping to cover her hair as many of her friends have done. The argument that we are obligated by Hashem to follow the Halacha and don't get to decide to only follow the Halachos we like or identify with was not a factor or even on her radar. Her "צד" to keep covering her hair was for social reasons [she wants to maintain a reputation as a religious woman]. Like - Hashem, Torah and Halachic obligations were not even part of the equation.
The enemy is happy to die and even send their sons to die for their distorted and sick conception of god. We should be able to show a little big of strength and keep Halacha even when difficult for the Real G-d. The whole reason this צרה is upon is likely b/c we were doing aveiros [whatever they are and whoever was doing them - see Rambam in Hil. Taaniyos]. Doing more aveiros doesn't help the war effort.
ומדה טובה מרובה.
