We Have To Do Something!

To borrow an idea from R' Yehoshua Shapira.

Let us say that [chas vi-shalom] an epidemic broke out in our high schools and about 6 or 7 of every 10 kids was dying of a drug overdose. Kids were dying every day [chas vi-shalom]. Some parents were burying two or even three of their children. The world would stop. Everybody would be talking JUST about this. It would be deemed a tragedy of mammoth proportions. Everything would be done to stop it.

What I just described IS happening - just not to the body's but to people's souls. Thousands of kids are watching horrific filth. In Rav Shapira's words כל ילד מסתובב עם בית בושת בכיס. [A בית בושת is where women make a living doing what only they can do for men]. And THAT is why nothing [or almost nothing] is being done to stop it. People have a very weak faith in the gravity and serious consequences of sin. It is too abstract. The body is REAL. The soul is an idea [in their minds]. People today usually don't get too excited about ideas. So they don't care very much. Even in "yeshivos" they allow the students to destroy their souls, Can't ruin recruitment. Competition is intense. If tomorrow they forbid smart phones that is the end of their enrollment.

OK - but what about letting kids destroy their souls which are MORE real than our pathetic bodies? What about ETERNITY??

According to a recent survey of Modern Orthodox Jews,  64 percent of respondents believe the Torah was given at Sinai — while 36 percent of respondents only “tend” to believe this or have doubts. While 51 percent of respondents believe G-d is involved in their lives, 49 percent only tend to believe this or have serious doubts. So if G-d is not involved in their lives then why should they care too much of their kid is watching filth. No big deal.

So as I have written many times there is something very wrong with our curriculum given the amount of people who barely believe in G-d. [In one post high school program they have an "emunah seminar" in the middle of the year. The kids come back stunned. It never occurred to many of them that Judaism is actually true]. In addition, there is this incredibly important issue of purity which is not sufficiently being addressed.

I wish that just about the only place I read about this was not on my blog alone. But people are so busy with other stuff that kids souls are being fried and nothing is being done.

Is there is anyone out there who cares?? I feel like mine is a lone cry in a large desert with nobody listening. But we can't stop crying. Human beings are suffering. Souls are suffering. Eternity is being compromised.

Let us do something.
