VERY SAD!!!
There are many Jews who received yeshiva day school education but who never grow in their learning to the point that they can "feed themselves" i.e. grapple with texts on their own. They need to be fed everything, either by THE Melamed of our generation - Artscroll, or by a human teacher. That is sad. Everybody who is minimally intelligent and received a Jewish education should be able to read a Chumash w/ Meforshim, Gemara w/ Meforshim, Mishna Brura etc. etc. by themselves. Artscroll and human Rabbeim should be aids in filling in gaps, deepening understanding etc. but not a substitute for one's own ability to ably swim through the texts.
