We don't know what is best for us. So when we daven we ask that Hashem should only accept tefillos that are good for us. ברחמים.
Rav Soloveitchik davened many tefillos that he wouldn't have to come to the USA - the "treife medina". Hashem didn't answer his tefillos and that is what saved his life.
