Obviously there are no words to describe how horrific the tragedy is.
One of numerous lessons we can learn [and it should be לעילוי נשמת הנפטרים]: A person is lying in his apt. in this condo in his comfortable bed on a plump mattress. The AC is going strong. The front door is double locked. There is a beautiful view from the window. NOTHING can go wrong. It is TOO good to be true!!! Complete emotional and physical security.
Then - BOOOOM!!
It's over. Next thing he knows he has lost all of his money, his apartment and most importantly - his life. Now he is being judged by his Creator not for how much money he has but for what type of person he was. SCAAARRRRYYY!!!
Reminds me of the lesson the Baalei Mussar learn from the שעיר המשתלח on Yom Kippur: The goat is brought to the top of the high mountain. It is a beautiful summer day in Israel. He is feeeeeling GREAT!!! Then - BOOOOMMM!! Next thing he knows he is tumbling down the mountain as his body parts come apart.
That is US on Yom Kippur. We feel GOOOOODDDDD!!! The AC in shul is pumping. We had a good meal before the fast and another one waiting for us after the fast. Then comes the great simcha of Sukkos. Maybe we will be in the King David for Sukkos or better - in our condo in Miami!!! PAAAARRTTYYYYY HARDYYYYYY!!! Life is AWESOME!!! We have a heavily padded bank account, some "flippingly" lucrative real estate investments, a few hundred K in the stock market and some other investments I don't want to mention..... But in Shomayim, for so many it is BOOOOOM. Death, illness, or other difficulties are being decreed upon us and we have no idea. It SEEEEMS so good.
והחי יתן אל לבו.
