Think abt. anti-semitism. What woke Theo Herzl from his slumber? Anti-semitism!!!
"A profound change began in Herzl’s life soon after a sketch he had published in the leading Viennese newspaper, Neue Freie Presse, led to his appointment as the paper’s Paris correspondent. He arrived in Paris with his wife in the fall of 1891 and was shocked to find in the homeland of the French Revolution the same anti-Semitism with which he had become so familiar in Austria. Hitherto he had regarded anti-Semitism as a social problem that the Jews could overcome only by abandoning their distinctive ways and assimilating to the people among whom they lived. At the same time, his work as a newspaperman heightened his interest in, and knowledge of, social and political affairs and led him to the conviction that the answer to anti-Semitism was not assimilation but organized counterefforts by the Jews. The Dreyfus affair in France also helped crystallize this belief. French military documents had been given to German agents, and a Jewish officer named Alfred Dreyfus had been falsely charged with the crime. The ensuing political controversy produced an outburst of anti-Semitism among the French public. Herzl said in later years that it was the Dreyfus affair that had made a Zionist out of him. So long as anti-Semitism existed, assimilation would be impossible, and the only solution for the majority of Jews would be organized emigration to a state of their own."So the Zionist movement was born - thanks to anti-semites. There are close to SEVEN MILLION JEWS in the Land of Israel. If the Brits or the Turks or anyone else would be in charge here that would never have happened. Of those seven million - at least 1.4 million are frum. There are countless yeshivos, Beis Yaakov's, kollelim, shuls, mikvaos, etc. etc. etc. in this country. That also would never have happened under foreign rule.
So here is the hidden but quite easy to identify Hand of Hashem. He uses secular Jews, inspired by anti-semitism, to build the country. As a result there is an unprecedented growth of Torah study and kiyum ha-mitzvos in the very land that the Torah tells us Hashem gave us in order to keep his Torah. As we read in this weeks parsha:
רְאֵ֣ה ׀ לִמַּ֣דְתִּי אֶתְכֶ֗ם חֻקִּים֙ וּמִשְׁפָּטִ֔ים כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוַּ֖נִי יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֑י לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת כֵּ֔ן בְּקֶ֣רֶב הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתֶּ֛ם בָּאִ֥ים שָׁ֖מָּה לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃
See, I have imparted to you laws and rules, as the Hashem my God has commanded me, for you to abide by in the land that you are about to enter and occupy.
People might argue that they don't LIKE the fact that the country was built by mostly secular jews and as a response to anti-semitism. OK! Take that up with KB"H [קודשא בריך הוא] next time you speak with Him - but that is how He did it!!
One could argue that he doesn't like the fact that every Tzadik in history was born as a result of תאוה. But that is the fact. No תאוה, no חשק, no הנאה - no baby.
One can argue a LOT of things. But it is best to see in retrospect how Hashem orchestrated things and try as best as one can to understand WHY and to appreciate the Divine Wisdom.
So it is like Haman. Whatever he did to destroy the Jews - ended up working against him! Bilaam tried to curse - but ended up blessing! Paroh wanted to make us his eternal slaves and instead we earned eternal freedom [עבדי הם ולא עבדים לעבדים!!]! The anti-semites were/are intent on destroying us but ultimately then only strengthen us!!! We see today how many Jews are proudly proclaiming their strong identification with our people ONLY as a result of all of the anti-semitism out there!

We don't LIKE anti-semitism, we don't ask for it, we try to avoid it - but we can't deny its potent, positive effectS!
