הצרה הגדולה ביותר הפוגעת בכנסת ישראל היא זו של תערובות. תערובות באות בשני אופנים: א] שאלו שמבחוץ מסתפחים לגופה של כנסת ישראל וזמורת זר הן בעצם דוגמת ערב רב. ב] כנסת ישראל פונה החוצה ואז ויתערבו בגוים וילמדו מעשיהם. רק בהסרת כוחות תערובות אלו מופיעה כנסת ישראל בכל הדרה, נאר אליין איז שוין גוט - אם רק נמצאים לבד זה כבר טוב.
המעשה אבות של בחינה זו היא ב"ויותר יעקב לבדו" לאחר שנתגבר על שרו של עשו, און איז פטור געווארן מתערובות

The greatest tragedy that has befallen the Jewish people is assimilation. This assimilation happens in two ways 1] Those from outside the Jewish People join us and constitute a "foreign planting" in our midst, such as the ערב רב - that infamous mixed multitude. 2] The Jews turn outward and learn from the deeds of the Gentiles. Only when all foreign mixtures are removed do the Jewish People appear in all of their glory. Only when we are alone are things good.
The sign of this in the lives of our forefathers was when Yaakov Avinu was left alone ויוותר יעקב לבדו - after he overcame the ministering angel of Eisav and was absolved [patur gevoren] of the impure mixture of Eisav. Only then is he worthy of the brachos.
Middah ki-neged middah, when we are in a state of being alone, Hashem can also appear alone - ונשגב השם לבדו ביום ההוא - Hashem will stand alone on that day [of the final redemption].
After Succos when we sacrificed 70 bulls on behalf of the nations of the world we reach Shmini Atzeres which is a reality of us rejoicing alone together with Hashem. That is why the pasuk says [in contrast to Pesach] עצרת תהיה לכם - It is a time of gathering for YOU. You alone.
When we are alone, then things are good.....:-)
Try whenever you can to prevent assimilation in the two ways described. That will make that special day of ונשגב השם לבדו come sooner.
