The pasuk says in this weeks parsha that the Meraglim said "ויאמרו טובה הארץ אשר ה' אלקינו נתן לנו" - Good is the land that Hashem gave us. Rashi explains that this is referring to Yehoshua and Calev.
The question is that the other ten spies ALSO said positive things about Eretz Yisrael "וגם ארץ זבת חלב ודבש היא וזה פריה", so why just the Yehoshua and Calev?
One answer given is that the only reason they first spoke positively was in order to get to the negative. If they just would have spoken disparagingly then they wouldn't have been believed. Instead, they tried to show that they were giving a "balanced story" so they first said the positive. But the intention was completely negative. So it was really ONLY Yehoshua and Calev who spoke positively.
We see this a lot in life - and not only on CNN. We too at times will say something nice about somebody else as a hakdama before we slash them. "She can be really nice at times .... but when she gets angry she completely loses control". "He is a very honest person.... but a complete nincompoop". "She is very pretty - but what a ditz" [I don't even know what that means but I know that a compliment it is not]. And the list goes on and on.
Let's make our positive completely positive:-).
