Just about every human being lives their life as if he is not at war. But this is not the Torah way. Life is a CONSTANT war. The battles are not against others but between the inferior [bad middos etc.] and superior parts of ourselves.
There is an old myseh about two people who encounter a tiger in the jungle. One of the guys puts on his running shoes. His friend asks: "Do you really think you can outrun a tiger?"
He answers: "I don't have to outrun the tiger. I only have to outrun you".
We often look at others and compare ourselves to them. But in fact the only person we should be comparing ourselves with is ourselves. We all have our own unique tests and difficulties.
